Understanding your Commodity Code and why they are Important

With Brexit looming and the challenges businesses will face, the basics of all international trade, is understanding commodity codes and ensuring you are using the correct commodity code for your products. Commodity codes classify your goods, so you can complete export/import declarations, Check if there's duty or VAT to pay, find out about duty reliefs. As the UK approaches its departure from the EU, it's crucial that businesses are doing all they can to prepare for the future and commodity codes are a starting point in looking at WTO rules.

This half-day training course covers all the key elements of the UK Trade Tariff and Commodity Codes.

Our trainers will highlight commercial implications of the correct use of the UK Trade Tariff and commodity codes and why it is so important to have a good understanding of them, which will help towards successful and efficient global business.

This course is suitable for those at all levels of management, operations and administration in Procurement, Sourcing, Finance, Customer Services, Sales, Logistics, Supply Chain and Import or Export administration.

Essential Housekeeping Advice from the Chamber of Commerce:

Businesses are strongly advised to review their commodity code classifications at least once if not twice a year as those businesses which fail to select accurate commodity codes and maintain appropriate records are subject to significant penalties for non-compliance.


FEES are payable in advance with the booking form. Payment can be made by BACS to the following account;
sort code: 30-90-87 account number: 00047804 quoting 'Int Trade Booking' as your reference and in return a VAT invoice will be sent. Fees include lunch, refreshments, writing material and course notes.

CANCELLATIONS A refund of fees less 50% cancellation charge will be made for written cancellations received no later than ten working days before the start of the course. After that time no refunds or transfers to another course can be made. A substitute delegate will be accepted at any time. The Chamber reserves the right to alter or cancel a course due to circumstances beyond our control
